 Awards and titles aside, I'm most proud that my Shorthairs are exceptional family and hunting companions. 








Here at Wing And A Prayer Shorthairs (WAAPS) we breed selectively for the desired characteristics of temperament, sound conformation, field performance and most of all health.  We breed AKC Champions because we believe a conformation champion reflects the ideal picture of what breeder's should strive for (hight, weight, angulation of limbs, what a dog should look like during movement etc.).  We hunt test our dogs in AKC and NAVHDA field events to prove their field performance abilities.  

 We health test our dogs and report the results to the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals.  We do every heath test requirement set forth by our breed club, The German Shorthair Pointer Club of America.  
OUR NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM

Healthy joints are crucial in sporting group dogs.  

We spare no expense in feeding our dogs the highest quality nutrition possible, the raw diet.           Quality nutrition prevents your puppy from being vulnerable to many diseases like allergic disorders, allergy dermatitis, mange, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, lupus and even cancer.  While there is no guarantee your puppy will never get sick, we can guarantee we will do everything possible to give your puppy the very best nutrition possible.  

 Our puppies are weaned to 100% Orijen Amazing Grains Large Breed Puppy after they are fed a wide variety of healthy raw foods from me.  Yet again, we spare no expense in our food choice for our puppies. 

What sets us aside from other breeders?  You're getting the very best we can possibly do.  Unsurpassed nutrition, the finest bloodlines, proven parents and hands on diligent care of our puppies.  Your puppy has been given every possible advantage at a great start.  

 But Sharon, I don't need a show dog and I'm not finishing my dog to an AKC Master Hunter, why would I want your dogs?  Because titles prove value, temperament, intelligence, ability and it proves they are a great representation of their breed.

This pairing of Gambler and Bristol that produced Lacy was the finest breeding for that year IN THE NATION if you consider both conformation and hunting.  Very few breeders breed Grand Champion to Grand Champion, even less breeders breed AKC Master Hunters to AKC Master Hunters, almost nobody breeds GCH MH to GCH MH.  Wing And A Prayer Shorthairs did both.  Go back one more generation and you'll see another Champion/Master Hunter Advanced, Champion/Master hunter, Champion Junior hunter and Dual Champion/Grand Champion/ Master Hunter (actually Camo is the highest titled GSP of all time).  


Lacy is a fully finished gun dog.  She is steady to wing and shot, retrieves to the hand when commanded to do so and honors her bracemate.   She is professionally field trained by Rev. Buck Henderson of Backyard Training Kennels.  She's also a Grand Champion.  Lacy is the complete package!

This is the litter announcement for the Bristol x Agent pairing.  What do we see here?   EXTREME type!   You're looking at two of the finest bred GSP's for conformation you can find.  This pairing produced Daisy.  She was my pick bitch. 

My Bristol (dam to Daisy) is to this day, the only Grand Champion/ Master Hunter bitch in TX, 1 of only 3 in the nation that I know of.  

Agent is a Grand Champion who is sired by GCH Cyrus who was the #1 conformation GSP in 2016 and you might recognize him because he was Best Of Breed at Westminster giving him primetime TV coverage for Sporting Group. 

I did the very best I could possibly do when I paired Bristol with Agent.  My work paid off.  I literally think Daisy has better conformation than her mama.  I do not say that lightly because I hold Bristol in VERY high regard.  

Grand Champion blah blah blah asside...  Daisy is a loved family companion for her foster family, the Knights who reside literally 1 block up the street.

About Riggs...   He was the EASIEST puppy to house train, he's extremely intelligent, he needs a DNA check because he's the calmest Shorthair you've ever lived with and he's everything you want in a hunting dog.  He is a fully finished gun dog.  He retrieves to the hand and was never force fetched.  He is professionally trained by Buck Henderson of Backyard Training Kennels.  Buck's exact words,  "Talk about putting natural retrieving back into your program."  

While his amazing genetics are just that, amazing, it's very important to know we do our hard work too.  Riggs is an exceptionally worthy stud dog, proven.

What is the true cost of a puppy at the end of the day? 


I sell my pups for just about the same price as every backyard breeder out there.  However, what is the true cost of my puppies after my investment in their sire/dam? 

The cost of a Master Hunter title is the biggest investment for us.  It's 2-3 years of training and handling for the test.   I have 2 Master Hunters in our kennel right now and we're currently paying for our 3rd.  Friends, a MH title is many many months and years of paying trainers and then paying handlers for the test.  I kid you not when I tell you a MH title can be over $10,000.  You have a truly intelligent gun dog if you own a Master Hunter!  Quick brag...  Our stud dog Sport MH has 26 Master Hunters in his pedigree including himself. 

The cost of finishing an AKC Champion is about $5,000-$7,000 depending on how fast they finish.  A Grand Champion is 10 points above an AKC Champion and could easily be $10,000.  Again, prices vary regarding the specific dog. 

The puppy food I feed y'alls pups is literally more than double what I could have fed.  I feed the most expensive kibble money can buy, Orijen Large Breed Puppy. 

The raw diet I feed my kennel, pregnant bitches and lactating bitches is my time, not necessarily money.  I literally shop 3 local grocery stores for all ingredients they consume.  When I do raw food prep on a Saturday, it's a thankless job.  Nobody sees the work I put in.  My only reward is the health outcomes of my puppies, health of my adult dogs and repeat puppy buyers who bought a healthy puppy.  

Our bitches are NEVER over bred.  When you over breed broad bitches you'll see immunocompromised puppies due to depleted nutrients in the dam.  This is where you'll see skin issues, bad joints, allergies, arthritis etc.  It is perfectly acceptable to ask how many litters the dam has had that you're buying a puppy from!


Our breeding stock NEVER live their lives in a 10x10 kennel.  This is why we use foster families.  I own the only Grand Champion/Master Hunter bitch in Texas and even Bristol lives with her foster family where she's a loved couch potato/hunting partner.  

Your puppy comes with lifetime support regarding your personal situation.  I never charge an adoptive family to adopt your puppy in the event there's a life situation that you can't keep your pup.  I donate my time. 

So... What's the cost of your puppy?  The actual question is what is the TRUE cost of you puppy after hard work.  

Work.. work.. work..  THEN have a litter of puppies.  Backyard breeders who did NO work don't deserve to charge the SAME amount of money we do.  When a breeder boast, Champion lines, remember, they are selling puppies on the coattails of another breeder's hard work.  When a breeder does nothing with their breeding stock regarding titles, you know they are only breeding to profit, not breeding to better the breed.  

If a breeder did zero health clearances, you'll know because it's not posted on their website.  This is a golden rule in reputable breeding.  It costs me about a little over $1,000 per breeder for health clearances.

Sundae lives her live as a valued house companion with her foster family.  What is a foster family?  We place an 8 week old puppy at no charge, we pay for all dog show expenses, we personally do all hunt training and handling for AKC hunt tests, then we withhold 3 litters.  They pay zero vet expenses either.  Every dog that is a breeder in the WAAP program is either a house dog for us or a house dog for their foster family.  

Sundae is very special to our program for many reasons.  She's the epitome of the breed standard for both type and hunting ability.  Furthermore and uttermost important, she's a delightful, loved house dog for her foster family.  

Hunting....   She's by no means a close running dog but she's not too far out either.  She hunts for the foot hunter.  My husband gives her one tweet on the whistle and she immediately turns to get in front of him.  She loves to retrieve to the hand and will sprint to any shotgun shot looking for game if she wasn't in the find.  

Conformation...  What can I say...  She won 3 straight 5 point majors at the biggest dog show in TX, The World Series Of Dog Shows in Houston.  Again, she was class bitch undefeated.  There has never been a finished AKC Champion by WAAP this quickly.
